Principal's Corner

Dear Parents and Guardians:

It's hard to believe that the first semester of the 2023-2024 school year is already behind us! What an incredible semester we have had!  I am looking forward to exciting new adventures and opportunities for us at LES, continued student achievement and a strong finish for the 2nd semester!

We indeed had such an outstanding first semester here at LES! Energy, excitement and engagement filled our classrooms, and our students and staff worked hard to make sure we met many of our first semester goals! Students and teachers will continue to work hard this semester to ensure we have a year full of SUCCESS! Pre-K and kindergarten students will continue to work hard towards meeting and exceeding both individual and school goals for the statewide KRA assessment this spring.  First and second grade students continue their quest to become strong, fluent readers! (They have already set and surpassed so many of their goals!)  Third grade students and teachers continue preparing for the Spring 2024 MAAP Assessment and the 3rd Grade Summative Reading Assessment. Fourth grade students and teachers have worked collaboratively together to set MAAP growth goals, and they are already working to surpass those growth goals!  (We are going for the #3peat!)  We have set our expectations high, but I have NO doubt our students and staff will once again FINISH STRONG and capture another "A-rated Academic State Championship!"  (I believe!)

I'd like to personally thank each of you again for helping us achieve our second year as an A-rated school! We continue to be both honored and humbled about this accomplishment!   Words truly cannot express our sincerest THANK YOU and deepest gratitude to our teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, our students and their families, our community and the entire HORNET NATION for their hard work, dedication and faithful commitment to excellence, success and to providing our students with the absolute BEST journey at LES! We could not have done it without each of you!  You are ALL such a VITAL part of all that we do at LES! You are valued, appreciated and loved beyond measure!

As we move into the second semester of this school year, I'd like to challenge each of you to commit to reading to your child for at least 30 minutes each day.  Research has shown that "reading just 20 minutes a day exposes a child to a vast quantity of words (1.8 million in each school year, actually!). As a result, this exposure makes children more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests, compared to children who read just 5 minutes per day — and are therefore more likely to score in the 50th percentile — it’s easy to see how reading time translates to academic success.  Meanwhile, a separate study involving almost 10 million students showed "only those reading at least 15 minutes a day achieved accelerated reading gains, and those reading less were at risk of falling behind their peers."

Again, I'd like to thank you for the help and support you give us at LES.  I genuinely love and appreciate each of you and what you do to help our staff, students and Lake Elementary School!  As always, I am honored to serve each of you and your families, our school and our community,  and I'm BEYOND BLESSED to be a small part of such a wonderful school family!  If I can do anything to help you, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Thanks so much,

Mrs. Seale :)
