Mrs. Bonnie's Library

Welcome to the LES Library site.  I am Mrs. Bonnie.

When you come visit the school I know you will love the air brush art work and the pictures that have made our campus so beautiful!  Part of that was made possible by funds generated by the Scholastic Book Fairs that were held last year.  Many thanks to the parents who allowed your children to purchase books, novelties and posters from the Book Fair.  We will be having Book Fairs again this year starting in October during the week when your child gets their 1st report card, October 17 - 21.  I'm so glad Mrs. Seale could use the funds to do something so awesome for our students!   Money generated by selling suckers for 25 cents in the library will help fund  projects again this year. Thank you for sending a quarter now and then for your child to buy a sucker when they come to the library.  When choosing a sucker from the box, they will always get a sucker, but sometimes they choose one that has green or red mark on the stick.  That means they get a little something extra, too.  It makes buying a sucker a fun event.  Every little bit helps to fund wonderful things that Mrs. Seale thinks of to do for LES students.  So many students received money for hard work done in Accelerated Reading last year and they got to eat lunch with their principal!!  That was thanks to you for allowing them to buy some 25 cent suckers in the library.

Our first Scholastic Book Fair will be October 16 - 20, the week after we have been out 3 days for Fall Break!  We have our Reading Fair Competition right before Fall Break and the Book Fair right after Fall Break!! WOW!!  Books for all ages, posters, pens, pencils, erasers, and other novelties will be for sale during the Book Fair.  The profits from the selling of these items helps to fund wonderful things that Mrs. Seale comes up with to motivate our students to be and to do their best.  Thanks for sending some money for them to spend.  Better yet, come to school and shop with them...especially after Pick-Up-Report-Card-Night. Any family that comes that evening between 3 - 6 PM, will have the opportunity to put your family's name one time in a drawing to give away $100 value of "good stuff" from the Book Fair.  We will draw the name Friday after school gets underway, and the lucky family will get a box of some books and novelties from the fair.  Just come by, you don't have to buy anything to enter...we wish you would... but you do not have to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gage Sanders' family won the box of 16 books and 6 goodies from the Book Fair last year!!!  Beco, the magician, drew his name out of the box after the magic show Friday morning in the gym!
These 18 kids won a free poster from the Book Fair by having their receipt drawn from their grade's box:  Eric Wiedman, Brysen Budhoo, Austin Stacy, Karlee Stewart, Tanyjal Lofton, Nate Geter, Maggie Morris, Kendarious Waits, Harbor Wooten, Jamarious Green, Jada Moore, Allee Anderson, Jadaysha Patrick, Jaylynn Reid, Ike Gray, Natalie Beckwith, Aaliyah Mathis, Hayden Dennis, and Eli Bradshaw.
Our Scholastic Book Fair was week of Oct. 17-21, 2016.  We sold almost $3,000 worth of books and fun items.  We chose to get our profit in cash, which equaled about $750.  Thank you so much for coming and shopping with your child on Parent Night and sending money by your child during the week for them to buy something.  I know the items are expensive.  I wish they were not.
We had some  volunteers to help during the Scholastic Reading Fair.  Thanks so much to Blair Anderson- Marshall and Mercy's mom, Latasha Mayers- Da'Naysia's mom, Ms. Robin- Da'Naysia's Aunt, and Natasha Mayers-Harmonie's mom for helping while some classes were in the library shopping!!!  It was much appreciated, ladies!
I am looking forward to a wonderful year of reading great books to your students!  I trust that I can instill a love for reading in their lives.  Ask them at the dinner table if they heard a good book read today.  Ask them if they have a favorite character from a book that Mrs. Bonnie has read or if they have a favorite author?  Tell them about one of your favorite books or authors from your childhood.  **Here's an idea...let them see you reading a book, or you and your child read a book together...a little each evening.  (Just an idea to encourage reading in your home!)
The 2017 MS Department of Education Reading Fair will be held earlier this year.  Our school Reading Fair (storyboard) competition will be Monday, Oct. 9 storyboards are due and the judges will judge the boards Tues., October 10.  (This is the day before our Fall Break begins Oct 11- 13.)  First and second place winners will go on to the District Competition held November 17, the Friday before we get out for Thanksgiving Holidays.  It will be held at Roosevelt State Park at Alfredo Lodge in Morton, MS.  The first place winners only will advance to the Regional Reading Fair Competition held sometime in the month of January at MSU Kahlmus Additorium in Meridian. (The exact date has not been decided yet.)  The State Competition will be the third Tuesday in February...Feb. 20th.  A info sheet was sent home August 15 or 16 by your child.  If you are interested in the competition, please send back the bottom of the sheet, and I will send the 28 pg. guidelines to you by your child. I hope lots of you will want to participate this year.  We have some boards from past years on display in the library, if you would like to come by to have a look at what others have done in the past.  If you want to look on-line at the 28 page guidelines, you can go to the MDE website by going to the SCSD website. Click on MDE, type "reading fair" in the SEARCH bar. It takes you to the MS Reading Fair page. Then click on the blue words "Student Guidelines".  There are the 28 pgs. for you to view.
Haiku-Japanese Poetry / 3 lines / 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables / pretty easy
Some of the 1st -4th graders will write Haiku poems that were mailed off to Boise, ID, Fri., March 11, to see if their poem might be included in the 2017 Poetry Digest.  I feel confident that we will have a lot of our students' poems in this fall's copy of the 2017 Young American's Poetry Digest, if you parents mail the signed permission form back in time. The company will send the letters of notification to our school and we will send the letter home by your child for you to have the opportunity to have their poem in the book and to buy a book(s) if you want to.  You do not have to buy a book for your child's poem to be printed in it.  Mrs. Bonnie would love for you to come by and look at our copy to see your child's printed poem. We can even make a copy of that page for you. The books are mailed to you sometime in the month of October.
The students who were able to get on Scholastic to record their minutes read this summer read over 2,200 minutes!! Way to go students and parents.  Thanks for participating!
